Future parents often rush to prepare the new family member’s room.
They torment themselves with the furniture and furnishings of the bedroom: everything must make the new loved one feel and stimulate the development of the child. They would never dream of bottle feeding their new bundle of joy.
But the new nursery is sprinkled with fresh paint and new carpets are installed. A freshly painted or plastic crib is lined with the brand new mattress and blankets with synthetic fire retardant treatment. Diapers, pajamas, pacifiers and soft toys are carefully staged.

The problem of toxic chemicals in baby products emerged a few years ago when Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) emerged.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that degas from fresh paint, carpet, furniture and new bedding pose a serious risk.
Airborne particles are more dangerous for lung development and are associated with SIDS.
As the nursery is empty, now is a good time for environmental assessment. If the house is older than 1978, it may have lead-based paint. In this case, absolutely do not sand the room. Lead abatement is a job for professionals.

Carpet should be evaluated for toxic emissions and replaced with non-toxic varieties or beautiful hardwood. The term “rug ratz” was not invented at all. Babies and pets live together in the dirtiest part of every house, the floor. Most carpets are toxic and impossible to clean.
When you are sure that the room is safe, you need to install an air purifier for the nursery. The most prominent brand marketed as “baby” is just the opposite. Your baby’s room should have the best air purifier in the house. One without ozone or other questionable technologies.
A nursery is no place for air purifiers based on oxidizing technology, photocatalytic or plasma ionizers should also be excluded.
Time-honored HEPA air filters with significant weights of added activated carbon (for chemical vapor control) are the ticket here, and they don’t come cheap. Any ultraviolet (UV) germicidal add-ons should be premium quality – cheap UVs are prone to ozone.
Any ionizer should be ozone-free, which excludes most.
