Bratz dolls are very popular indeed. Maybe you are a fan of Bratz dolls too! If you’d like to sew some clothes to wear, try some of these great doll clothes design tips. My dresses are very easy to make and are quite trendy too. I try to design styles that are both child-friendly and parent-friendly, using bright complementary colors and textures.
Doll dress patterns are available for purchase at many fabric stores, but I haven’t found any Bratz doll patterns yet. Hence, I came up with these projects through trial and error. Using inexpensive fabrics like muslin, I experimented with new items until I had a few that “rightfully” fit the Bratz dolls. I then traced the muslin garments on paper to use as patterns for future sewing. Sounds scary, I know. But in reality, it allowed for greater freedom in sewing doll clothes to fit “exactly the way you pictured them in your mind.” Sometimes I have had to resize and sew a muslin garment many times before it fits nicely. In other cases, I’ve done things “right the first time”.
Designing your own patterns allows you to incorporate your own style ideas into clothes. For example, I made a dress with only one sleeve and added a vinyl belt that closes with velcro. I also created a nightie pattern with the sleeves cut inside. For this reason, they did not have to be sewn separately. This worked well, because I’ve never liked sewing sleeves to the bodice of a garment. Also, I prefer to put an elastic waistband on the pants so that it is easier to put the pants on the dolls. By being able to adjust the patterns, I was able to include this elastic belt feature on the doll’s pants.
The best way to complete a project like this is to make sure you are in a calm and relaxed state of mind. You don’t want to feel rushed or irritable, or you may be setting yourself up for frustration. Be patient and allow yourself to make mistakes with muslin. You may need to “fine-tune” your attempts at making clothes. To remember, some of the best ideas start out as mistakes!
