If there is a word in the Bible and an attribute of God that is being abused and abused, it is his “grace”. I’ve heard sinners say, “God understands. He is merciful. He is merciful.” I have also heard from those whom I have corrected and pointed to the truth: “You do not exercise grace towards me”.
All this distorted and distorted knowledge and understanding of God’s grace inspired me to write this article. I will analyze the true meaning of God’s grace and what it means for us to have it as well.
Grace means favor. Psalm 84:11 says: Because the Lord God is Sun and Shield; the Lord gives [present] grace and favor e [future] glory (honor, splendor and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He refuse to those who walk righteously.
Notice here that the favor is granted to those who walk righteously. And since grace and grace go hand in hand, it also follows that grace is poured out on those who follow the Lord. Romans 5:21 testifies to this …
So that, [just] as sin reigned in death, [so] may grace (His undeserved and undeserved favor) also reign through the righteousness (righteousness to be with God) which He emits in eternal life through Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) our Lord.
So, a person who has already discovered Jesus and has been reborn, and continues to sin deliberately, he cannot say that God’s grace will cover him. This is taking advantage of God. Indeed Galatians 5:13 says:
Because you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature.
Grace also refers to God’s undeserved favor. Romans 3:24 says: [All] are justified and made upright and in just being with God, gratuitously and gratuitously by his grace (his undeserved favor and his mercy), through the redemption that is [provided] in Christ Jesus.
Unmerited favor simply means “favor we do not deserve”. That is why it is difficult for self-reliant people to receive grace from God. Similarly it is difficult for people who have been good all their lives to accept that it is not their good works that will lead them to heaven, but their faith. and abandonment to Jesus Christ.
This “undeserved favor” has however been taken for granted, in the sense that Christians have forgotten the part of “good works”. While it is not good works that save us, good works should follow our salvation. Good works are our fruit that people will see. Without these fruits, how will the world see that we are different from them? Therefore, Christians who continue to live in sin do not walk by grace at all. They are abusing God’s grace.
Another meaning of grace is “God’s ability to do things we cannot do alone”. James 4: 6, Amplified Version, clearly explains this.
But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to respond fully to this evil trend and all the others).
The next part of James 4: 6 says: This is why it says: God sets himself against the proud and arrogant, but gives grace. [continually] to the humble (those who are humble enough to receive it).
Take note of this … Grace is given to those who humble themselves before the Lord and to those who are humble enough to receive it. Again, if a person continues to live in sin even after he has already known the Truth, then there is no humility there, and therefore God’s grace will not be given.
Grace is appropriate for those who seek it. Hebrews 4:16 says: Let us therefore draw near fearlessly, confidently and boldly to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s undeserved favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy. [for our failures] and find the grace to help in time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].
Grace is associated with our relationship with Jesus Christ. We grow in grace as we grow in Christ. Peter said in 2 Peter 3:18: But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and in the recognition, knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To him [be] glory (honor, majesty and splendor) both now and in the day of eternity. Amen (so be it)!
A person under God’s grace will never sin deliberately. Romans 6:14 says: Because sin will not be [any longer] exercise dominion over you, for now you are not under the law [as slaves]but under grace [as subjects of God’s favor and mercy]. This means that when a Christian chooses to return his sin to him, he has fallen from the grace of God. It is only when that Christian repents that he is brought back to the grace of him.
So next time you hear someone say … Oh God is merciful and merciful. He understands what I’m going through … and using that as an excuse to stay in sin, then you’d better scold that person with these scriptures about grace. This also applies to all of us, that none of us will abuse and abuse God’s grace.
Let me conclude this message by reading you from Deuteronomy 29: 18-20 …
Mind that there should not be among you a man or a woman, or a family or a tribe, of which [mind and] the heart turns away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of these nations; why shouldn’t there be between you a [poisonous] root bearing gall and wormwood,
And out of fear, when he hears the words of this curse and oath, he flatters and congratulates himself in his [mind and] heart, saying: I will have peace and security, even if I walk in the stubbornness of mine [mind and] heart and sweeps away the irrigated land with dry land.
The Lord will not forgive him, but then the Lord’s wrath and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book will come upon him; the Lord will blot out his own name from under the heavens.
Remember, God the Father and God the Son are one. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are one. You cannot isolate God’s grace from his anger and punishment when you disobey and take his grace for granted.
