Every mom and dad want a successful future for their children. But what qualities should be developed in children? Foresight: the quality you don’t hear much about, but what every child needs most! First we should try to understand what prediction is and why it is so important.

We will tell you how to find the key to this skill and how to teach children to have foresight.

A farsighted person thinks about what he is doing now and the consequences this behavior will have. He is able to analyze any situation and live it in his head. This is a very special skill. People who have it can achieve anything in life.

For very young school children, the thinking process is often disorganized. They think about whatever is on their mind. Their thoughts jump around, like rabbits. If this disorganization persists throughout life, it will create an abundance of problems throughout adulthood.

Is it possible to teach children to think about the future? Of course; it is both possible and necessary. Everyone is able to choose what to think, and it is important to teach children to approach this choice conscientiously, from an early age.

Above all, children need to be taught to think about what they are doing right now. Tell the children as often as possible: “Let’s think about the best way to do this.” Discuss everything with your children; toys, homework, washing dishes, doing laundry.

Ask your child: “I have to wash these clothes, what should I think about?” Give the child the opportunity to answer, then explain in your own words: “I must not forget to wash light-colored clothes separately from dark ones. Also, woolen clothes must not be mixed with other fabrics.”

Play the following game as often as possible: WHAT SHOULD YOU THINK?

When you wake up in the morning, what do you have to think about? When you want something to eat, what do you have to think about? When you go for a walk, what do you have to think about? For example, when I go for a walk I have to think about:

The time and what clothes would be suitable; What toys will I play with outside so I can take them with me; Thinking who of my friends to invite. The most important part of this process is giving the child the opportunity to respond and praise her response. This will encourage them to think about what they are doing. You can give the child a colored token for each answer. Explain to the child that he must receive at least 3 tokens to become a farsighted person.

When the child learns to think this way, he will be able to play alone and concentrate for long periods of time. As the child grows up, he will be able to tackle any task with due concentration and tackle the tasks on his own.

But foresight does not only imply concentration on the task at hand, it also requires the ability to think about the future, TO IMAGINE WHAT WILL HAPPEN. The first time a young child is introduced to the concept of consequence is when they are told not to touch a hot flame. But children absolutely cannot experience all the thousands of situations they might encounter in their lifetime. So this is where a magic word comes in handy: “IMAGINE”.

When you read a story to a child, end with a discussion, starting with the word “Imagine”. “Imagine a chicken gave you a golden egg. What would you do with it?”

When playing or walking with the child, use the magic word “Imagine” as often as possible. “Imagine you saw a ferocious dog. What would you do? Imagine having to cross the street alone without a traffic light. What would you do?”

And the stories, as usual, will help stimulate the child’s mind: “A bear cub was on his way to the shops. He had to cross the road. The crossing was a long way away and the cub was in a hurry to buy ice cream, so he decided to run across the street. The bear cub looked to the right; there was a distant car in the distance, so he started running. Imagine what happened next … “

An example of a story to develop foresight in children between the ages of 3 and 5.

What should the hare have been thinking about? The mother hare planted some cabbage in the garden. Her young son helped Mom and watered the cabbages every day, while Dad hare built a fence around the garden. He pushed sturdy, smooth planks into the ground to prevent offenders from sneaking in and eating the cabbage.

Everyone rejoiced when the cabbages grew and mama hare said to her son:

“You have worked very hard; now you can relax and play for a while.”

The young hare jumped on the meadow behind the vegetable garden. There was a tree stump by the side of the lawn, and the hare began to beat a happy tune with its paws on it. Suddenly, a young goat appeared from the woods. She rose for joy and cried out:

“Hey, you’re really good at this. Drum music is great for bouncing. But it’s a little quiet. You need sticks to make it louder.”

The young hare looked around. The wood was on one side of the meadow and the vegetable garden on the other. And the fence around the garden was made of beautiful straight boards … The young hare ran up to the fence and pulled out one of the sticks, but it was too fat, so she pulled out another ‘but that was too heavy. In the end, the hare chose two strong and light sticks.

He tried to drum with them – and it was wonderful! The sound of the drums was so attractive that the little goat began to dance. The little hare was ecstatic and she jumped into the woods to show her friends of hers how she could play the drum. Everyone praised the drummer and told him he had a fantastic talent.

The young hare did not come home until evening.

Mum! she shouted from the doorway. “I can play drums better than anyone; do I have to show you?”

“No, I am very upset. There is a disaster! Someone has destroyed the fence of our garden”, replied angrily father-hare.

“Yes, hordes of thieves snuck through the hole in the fence to steal our cabbages. We lost half of our crop before Dad fixed the hole in the fence,” Mama hare said with a sob.

The young hare turned bright red and hid her sticks behind her back.

“Mom always told me: think first and act later”, recalls the young hare.

Questions and tasks:

What should the hare have been thinking about? Any other idea where she could get a nice pair of drumsticks? Imagine there is a little girl who is worried that her doll will get cold in the winter. She has no warm clothes for the doll, so she cuts a piece from her mom’s coat to warm her doll. Do you think the girl behaved correctly? How was she supposed to behave? Imagine that you and Mom have planted seeds in the flowerbed next to the house. They have blossomed and everyone is happy. So imagine a little boy comes in and chooses them as a gift for his mom. Is this the right way to behave? What was the boy supposed to do?

When a child learns to think about what will happen before it happens, he will behave thoughtfully. This ability protects children from childhood disappointments and plays a huge role in their lives as they grow up.
